After 20 weeks, the 2016 college football season has come to a end!

For the second time in programme history and for the first time since the 1981 college football season, the Clemson Tigers are national champions!

In the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, the #2 Tigers secured their second national championship after dethroning the previously undefeated and defending national champion, #1 Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 35 to 31!

The Crimson Tide came just one second short of winning their second consecutive national title and winning their 17th title overall. You can thank #13 WR Hunter Renfrow for catching a 2-yard touchdown to win the game!

So how did the two remaining teams advanced to the National Championship Game?

On Saturday, 31 December 2016, in the first national semifinal game, the #1 Crimson Tide eliminated the #4 Washington Huskies, 21 to 7. In the second national semifinal game, the #2 Clemson Tigers shut out and eliminate the #3 Ohio State Buckeyes, 31 to 0.

#4 QB Deshaun Watson was awarded the 2017 CFP Offensive Player of the Game! He earned the award for completing 36 of 56 attempts with a quarterback rating of 145. He rushed 420 yards and scored 3 touchdowns with 4 sacks and 21 rushes for 43 yards!

#10 LB Ben Boulware was awarded the 2017 CFP Defensive Player of the Game! He earned the award for making 6 tackles (4 unanswered and 2 assisted tackles) and 1 pass defended interception.

The #2 Clemson Tigers finish their season with 14 wins and 1 loss. The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide with their only loss of the season also finish their season with 14 wins a 1 loss. With the Crimson Tides' loss, this leaves no more undefeated college football teams as the 2016 season came to a end.

The Crimson Tide's loss also snaps the programme's 26-game winning streak with their last loss in September 2015.

The 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game was played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida with an attendance record of 74,512. The national anthem was performed by Little Big Town with the halftime show being performed by the Million Dollar Band and the Clemson University Tiger Band.

With the exception of the all-star college football bowl games later this month, college football has headed into a long off-season. The 2017 college football season will begin a new on Thursday, 31 August 2017 - that's less than 233 days from today!

For now, congratulations to the Clemson Tigers for pulling off an upset against the previously undefeated and national champion, Alabama Crimson Tide to win their first national championship in 35 years!

The Clemson Tigers are the champions of college football! :w00t::heart:
