The wait is finally over!
The Boston Red Sox have won the 2013 World Series after they defeated the National League champion, the St. Louis Cardinals, 6 to 1. The Red Sox eliminate the Cardinals, four games to two.
Since the introduction of the League Division Series at the close of the 1995 MLB season, both of the teams who made it all the way to the World Series, shared the best overall regular season records in each league only to win the World Series that season. This previously happened in 1998, 2007 and 2009.
This is also the fourth meeting between the Cardinals and Red Sox in the World Series (previous meetings were in 1946, 1967 and 2004) and also the first World Series since 1999 to pair the two teams with the best regular season records in their respective leagues and also the third time in history (following the 1949 and 1958 World Series) to feature two teams with identical regular season records.
The last time the Boston Red Sox won the World Series on home plate in Fenway was on 11 September 1918 when they took out the Chicago Cubs, four games to two.
#34 1st Base, David Ortiz was named the 2013 World Series Most Valuable Player. During the World Series, he was credited for scoring 7 runs, 11 hits and 2 home runs with 6 runs at base and struck out once.
Average time of the game in the series was 3 hours and 19 minutes and a average of 42,927 people attended the games in the 2013 World Series.
Once again, Boston strong! Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox, champions of the baseball world!
