For the third time in the last four years, the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide are the champions of NCAA Division-I football for 2012. They achieved their run as back-to-back national champions after they defeated and upset the #1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 42 to 14. The Crimson Tide scored the first 28 points going into the half. The Fighting Irish answered 14 points, but it wasn't enough to recover from the 28 point shutout deficit.

The Crimson Tide finish the year with 13 wins and 1 loss (1st in the SEC west with a 8-2 record while the Fighting Irish finish their first loss of the year...12 wins and 1 loss.

The Crimson Tide's overall postseason bowl record is 34 wins, 22 losses and 3 ties. This is makes the Crimson Tide's 15th national title overall.

The 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game Offensive MVP was awarded to #42 Running Back Eddie Lacy. He was credited for collecting 140 rush yards, touchdown on the ground tonight (157 total yards and 2 touchdowns), the fourth-best championship game rushing mark and 14th 100-plus yard BCS National Championship rushing performance overall. #32 Linebacker C.J. Moseley was named the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game Defensive MVP. He collected 8 tackles including 5 solo and 1 assisted tackle for a loss.

The top performers of the game, for the winning team, the Crimson Tide, it was #10 Quarterback A.J. McCarron who went 20-28, rushed 264 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.
