Description

Desktop screenshot of the realistic illustration of my Mechapuff R2 character painted by ~avymus, a reward for getting the 2,500 kiriban weeks ago.

This is inside DOSBox 0.74MB6 running Windows 3.0 (original release and not the same as the bugfixed version, Windows 3.0a) configured to run with 16 MB of system memory, which is the max that Windows 3.0 will accept.

I had to resize the wallpaper from 1280 x 1024 to 1024 x 768 and reduce the colour depth to 8-bits. It's possible to resize a illustration or photo (assuming that it's used for personal use only) to the appropriate size that fits the monitor.

Windows 3.0 was never a very well supported OS due to the fact that it was buggy and along with only being capable of addressing up to 16 MB of system memory, it can only create a swap file of up to 64 MB in size...meaning that the maximum amount of virtual memory that Windows 3.0 can use is 80 MB.

There were very few good SVGA capable display adapters designed for Windows 3.0, most notably, the Tseng Labs ET4000 display adapter with up to 1 MB of display RAM.

Inside Windows 3.0 is a nifty historic utility called the hDC Memory Viewer (part of hDC First Apps), which views how much memory it is being used for Windows apps, the total amount of RAM and how much memory is left over.

Anyways, the replacement GRiD Extended Duty battery (G44-1379) has been shipped and it should arrive either on Tuesday or Wednesday. I sure hope that the new battery pack works.

Comments and favs on this screenshot are appreciated.
